Melissa lost 20 lbs and dropped six dress sizes!
What motivated you to make a change?
What motivated me to make a change was not feeling comfortable in my own skin anymore. When I had looked in the mirror I appeared the same, I was a mom of three, working full time and completing my bachelor’s degree in a year and a half! However, I also packed on 35 extra pounds! I totally forgot that those fast meals, late homework sessions and sleeping less than 5 hours to start my work day didn’t help. I realized it this past September when I didn’t feel right any more. No one is going to tell you that you are getting fat, sometimes even your significant other will never admit to it. That is when I felt I needed to make a change. My friend invited me to sign up for a fitness place she attends. She told me her back story which I never ever would have thought until she showed me pictures. Her motivation and determination allowed me to feel confident that I could do the same! So I have! I won’t be turning back either.
When did you start noticing results and how did you track your results?
I had signed up in September, 2014 and was just learning how to maintain a workout schedule. Especially, where I never attended a gym! It was all a learning curve for me. I started to really focus in December when I was balancing two jobs over the holiday season and eating irregular. I had not lost any weight and didn’t want to go up in the scale any longer. I had signed up for the Fit Club January 2015 session. Going through that class helped me so much. I have a better understanding to what foods I eat, reading labels and being more accountable to what I put in my body. Tracking was so beneficial to my change, where I use Fitness pall. However, the most important thing that assisted me with my results was writing it down. Understanding what each meal is with calories, protein, fiber etc. allows you to really hit your goals. I had dropped pounds quickly but kept on the good stuff!
What changes did you make?
The changes I’ve made was taking out the bad fat and replacing it with the good. Balancing my meals with smaller portions what made a difference for me. I am not looking for junk food but healthier choices. I write down everything too! If I don’t then I won’t know where I did wrong if I do not have that accountability. No one is perfect but it is good to know that if you have a “cheat day” then write it down even if it doesn’t look good. You still need to “own it”.
How does it feel to be more physically fit and what are some of your achievements?
I feel pretty amazing. I didn’t realize on my appearance until I had finished the Fit Club in March, 2015. The differences in my pictures were so dramatic! That was a confidence booster for sure and made me feel that I need to continue my weight lost path as it can only end with great results! At this time I am wrapping up the Fit Club work out and lost total since signing up in September, 2014 about 20 pounds! Inches, I’ve dropped down 6 dress sizes too! It is crazy to think that with a few simple changes, working out regularly makes a huge difference. I feel stronger, healthier and don’t mind the new clothes!
What are some tips you would give someone trying to lose weight?
I would like to say that knowing the truth about the foods is importance. I would recommend any class like the Fit Club is the best move to your path of losing weight. It allows you to really focus on the hidden truths that you think about what you put in your mouth. Accountability is important too. You are what you eat! Exercise is important even if you can’t do it as much but doing something to make your body move allows you to burn the calories you need.
What is your current nutrition plan and what nutrition plan works best for you?
My current nutrition plan is having more protein, balancing the good food with proper calorie intake on a daily basis. Currently, I am focusing on losing more weight to hit goal. I have to make sure that I do not fall back onto old habits.
What is your current fitness plan and what fitness plan works best
for your goals?
My current fitness plan is working out at least 5 days a week. I do a strength class twice a week and the other days do home exercise with videos such as T-25 and PIYO. I also use my treadmill at least 2-3 times a week to keep my cardio up. I want to make sure that I continue making time for the exercise especially where you can forget that getting up from your desk fifteen more times than normal is a great thing! It allows you to continue with your goals. You will plateau but you have to change it up to not get into that funk. Or you will start seeing that scale go back up. I do not want to anymore. I want to be healthier for a life time, your looks change as you get older you have no control on that but you do with your body!
